Short films that raise dilemmas about sustainability

Today in class the students were organised in groups of 4 students and we saw the 12 award-winning Environmental Short Films from Project Earth:

After watching some of the shorts, a two-sides question was posed to the students. Each group had to split in two halfs and had some minutes to debate both positions. Once the time was finished, the students expressed all their opinions in front of the whole class.

The questions were:
  • Is human extinction the solution to climate change or can we coexist with nature if we are eco-friendly and use renewable energies?
  • Which diet is better? A diet based on genetically modified vegetables or based on organic cruelty free meat.
  • Should we completely ban the access of humans to the natural parks where different plants and animals live so that they can survive and live peacefully?

Finally, each student had to choose his favourite debate and write a for and against essay using all the arguments expressed during class and ending with his own opinion.
