Day 3 in Matosinhos - Botanical printing, SDGs and a museum

This morning, we woke up at 7:30 a.m., had breakfast together, and headed for the school. Upon arrival, Spanish and Portuguese students mingled at tables and created decorative mats for cans, pictures and jam jars. We used hammers and wooden boards to press flowers and leaves and use its pigmentation to print the clothes following a Japanese technique called tataki-zomé. It is also known as ‘flower pounding’ or ‘plant bashing.’

After that, we moved to another room where we finished off our group-designed logos for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and presented them to the rest of the classmates.

For lunch, many of us tried the soup of the day, which is typical here, today was garlic soup and everyone liked it a lot. After lunch, we came back to the school to film a video in groups on how to make Matosinhos more sustainable. Additionally, we also prepared a questionnaire to raise awareness among the citizens with the aim to ask people in Porto.

In the afternoon, when we finished our lesson, we went to the Museu da Memória de Matosinhos to learn a little bit more about its history through an interactive visit. There they had a model of their schools and the games played there. We also traveled through the history of Matosinhos by using virtual reality glasses, which we enjoyed a lot. They also had a little ship with multiple light effects to show us the harsh weather conditions sailors had to face when fishing in the past that ended in shipwrecks.

When we left, we went back to the hotel and got ready to have some pizzas for dinner.
